Central Ethics Commission
We only conduct clinical trials and do not provide the services given by a general practitioner. Volunteer patients are recruited from Berlin and the surrounding area.

We use a number of methods to recruit patients for our trials:

1. Advertising
Patients can be recruited through classified adverts in daily newspapers or specialist publications such as Apotheken-Umschau (a free magazine available in pharmacists), local papers, self help and support group publications, etc. The Berlin/Brandenburg catchment area is populous and has a high numbers potential.

This method might not be suitable for specific patient groups. However,
in some cases advertising can be very effective.

2. Network
We work together with practising physicians,. The suitable patient is told about the trial and trial procedures by his general practitioner or specialist. All other trial procedures are carried out on our premises. The advantage of working with practising physicians is the great number of potential patients. The patient’s physician is kept informed of the treatment involved in the trial right from the start. And we receive crucial information about the medical history and ongoing development during the trial.

3. Internet
Our own website as well as the Internet in general attract patients who are both well-informed and highly motivated.

4. Self-help and support groups
Information campaigns among self-help and support groups can be very effective.

5. Pharmacies
Notices are posted in pharmacies and in other relevant places.

6. Database
Our growing database of potential patients is a valuable tool.

All our recruitment procedures are approved by the ethics commission.
